Barbecuing Right Wingers

I despise people like Pam Bondi who, upon being questioned and criticized about her handling of the Epstein Files, seemingly went on to pivot towards the alleged improvement of the economy and used the popular buzz phrase “Trump Derangement Syndrome” to dismiss her critics, likely to deflect from valid concerns. This combined with what feels like Trump’s evasive behavior surrounding those same files looks suspect and has me livid! The whole internet rightly criticized the two, pointing out the utter carelessness and nonchalance in their handling of this very important issue, which many correctly argue warrants further investigation and transparency.

What was supposed to be a movement to combat the insanity of the otherside has itself, become co-opted by big, powerful voices in public spaces. These powerful and wealthy public figures are clearly aware of the common talking points and vernacular of online right wing circles and appear to be using these to capture the loyalty of nodding heads, who never critically evaluate what they are being fed. People like Jeremy Hambly of The Quartering Youtube channel, who seems to be using emotional clickbaiting tactics for lazy, mediocre content which feels lazily mass produced like a Mcdonald’s hamburger. Poor quality and taste. Not a single one of his videos stand out or are particularly interesting or memorable.

Hambly is universes apart from someone like Jordan Peterson, who has plenty of valuable insights and an educational background; which enriches the credibility of his arguments and philosophies from a whole range of observations on a multitude of different topics. Someone I used to know hilariously called Peterson a “grifter”, failing to acknowledge that there’s nothing wrong with making a living off of sharing your valuable insights based on highly specialized, academically based knowledge. Further, the term “grifter” is too often used to be dismissive of people that one might dislike, simply because they differ in their politics or tend to be celebrated by one side of the political spectrum. Not surprisingly, this individual was a self-proclaimed, left wing communist.

I find myself increasingly becoming both cornered by politics from both sides while finding some validity with both of them. I’m getting closer and closer to feeling like an “Enlightened Centrist”, a position in life that I absolutely dread to be forced to take up. Ultimately, it seems that the breadcrumbs laid before me will lead me right back to where I started in the first place; someone who doesn’t really care about politics (and who never did), but only paid attention because it became unavoidable and incredibly invasive everwhere that I go. In entertainment, in my sociology and psychology literature in my college courses, everywhere. I am forced to engage on some level or another with a topic that I have very little knowledge or interest in.

When the only path to neutrality and indifference means getting cornered and squeezed from both sides like a burger patty between two stale buns, you quickly realize that you can’t breathe. There’s no relief. No room to be yourself. You must engage. Obviously, this creates resentment and feels like psychological abuse and mental torture. Before you know it, you’ve become insane yourself and begin to realize that you too, are becoming passionate about one perspective over the other. Yet, being too average to accomplish anything meaningful to solve any problem so that you can shut it all down and make it go away, has a way of making you feel profoundly powerless and utterly useless.

It seems to me that in order to be effective and knowledgeable about politics, you must be well-versed in history, economics, culture and now race relations and identity politics in general. I have almost no interest in any of these topics, nor any expertise which means I can’t speak from a place of authority. Meanwhile, there are political junkies passionate about wars overseas, urging otherwise uninterested people like myself to pick a side and take a stance. Preferably theirs. What do you expect the outcome to be if you have a large number of people like myself scrambling to shut off the noise while still being sucked into various echo chambers? Certainly nothing productive, just more noise and unnecessary frustration.

White Privilege

My theory on white privilege is that it’s not a complete myth, but rather, that it no longer exists in the capacity that many people claim today. If anything, the shoe is now on the other foot and racial minority groups (African Americans in particular), including other minority groups have taken note of this trend in recent years and are now (not all, but in many cases) drunk on a power trip. Some have indeed experienced inequality and probably feel justified in taking advantage of this newfound rearrangement of power dynamics, which I believe has arisen as a reaction to the orange faced baboon being elected.

Tragedies such as the George Floyd situation have only perpetuated this narrative. Yet, I’d be bold enough to guess that perhaps from many decades ago leading all the way up until around 2013, the media, movies, music and possibly even institutions were indeed, programmed into being subtley prejudiced against racial minority groups. Perhaps as a result of media influence and the political atmosphere of that era. Does anyone remember the time Kanye West accused George Bush of “Not caring about black people?” on live television, all of those years ago? Despite how he has been unraveling in recent years, I suspect it is possible that he may have had some insight and personal experiences that so many people could not grasp at the time.

Think about how 9/11 affected the way that Americans looked at and treated Muslims in the early 2000’s. Consider how the media may have played a role in reinforcing a stigma which had infected the culture of our country. Now that people with disabilities and other historically marginalized groups have an advantage that they never got to experience before, the “privilege” narrative is no longer applicable to them. In fact, it is the very media which had likely perpetuated racism and other forms of bigotry into the culture, that is now making a complete U-turn and “editing history” in order to change these outcomes, which would be fine if it weren’t at the expense of other people. Cutting someone else down to raise yourself up does not equal “justice”, it is revenge and many people have blatant disregard for this fact. It is possible to have sympathy for this viewpoint while still taking a firm stance against it.

“Diversity Is Our Strength”

For any sane or reasonable person, this is inherently true but turning it into a politcally charged issue only creates sharp division and unnecessarily destructive tension between people, who ultimately should and do agree with each other on this point. The politicization (if that’s even a word) of this concept has created animosity and resentment towards the outgroup (which now consists of males, caucasians, Christians and straight people) which in turn, has caused otherwise normal people to reject the idea entirely. Not only reject it, but embrace hostile attitudes against it!

The consequences of this have resulted in radicalization on both the Left and The Right. The Right are simply reacting to the Left using terms like “Cis Scum”, “Toxic Masculinity” and a whole range of derogatory terms. People who are on The Left or Progressively minded notice this reaction and either react negatively to it in bad faith or misunderstand where the complaints are coming from and why they exist to begin with. This newfound privilege has blinded them in the same way it used to blind members of the majority culture and demographics.

From my perspective, the media and highly influential and wealthy people in society understand and realize that there’s a messy history of historical oppression that can be exploited to manipulate the population. No matter how hard we try to move past the ugliness of our oppressive past, there will always be deep scar tissue that never truly heals. Scar tissue based on old wounds felt by many generations of racial and other minority groups that to some extent, still gets reopened and has salt poured into it. This is an unfortunate reality of what it means to be human.

I foresee a time when we have two populations of people; a majority and a minority population struggling for cultural influence based on who has suffered more. I think one variable this depends on is how much longer people of the majority culture (or once majority culture) continue to experience the same level of marginalization that the former outgroup did or has. This allows enough flexibility for the media to manipulate and play both sides of the population for total control, by manipulating various narratives on a whim at any point in time. No good can come from this and while I admit that I am making wild claims and speculations that may not be supported by facts, I intuitively have felt that this is the reality of what is going on and why things are the way that they are.

Saying “Diversity Is Our Strength” is like saying “Murder Is Bad”. No one ever disagreed that it was and the fact that you felt the need to say such an obvious thing, makes me wonder what kind of game you’re playing. Either you’re an NPC or you’re playing some kind of angle for manipulative purposes. It’s a rather annoying and pointless position to take. Your pressure is unnecessary and unwarranted and your insistence that I agree with you pushes me from a position of being on your side to standing firmly against you, as I distrust your motives and suspect you of trying to decieve and bait me into an emotional, irrational overreaction. How can I possibly cooperate with someone I can’t trust?
